Devotional Studies
Hope for the Hurting
This series of devotions is intended to strengthen your heart, to give you hope, and to assure you that God knows about and understands your temptations and trials.
Questions of Jesus
Jesus often asked questions of those who followed Him, and many times responded to their questions with a question of His own. His questions were intended to prompt us to examine ourselves, our motives, and our beliefs more closely.
Portraits of Christ
This devotional study takes a closer look at a few of the many names and titles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Guide for New Christians
This brief study, along with an accompanying 10-lesson course, will help get you started on your new journey with Christ.
Finding Jesus in the Old Testament
When we study the Old Testament, we find what are called types that are fulfilled in the coming of the Messiah. In these types, there is a correspondence between people, events or rituals of the Old Testament and Jesus Christ.
The Temple of God
The Temple was a foreshadow of Christ and His redemptive and sacrificial work for mankind, as well as symbolic of God's presence among men. As Christians, our own bodies are now the temple of the Holy Spirit.
The Day of Atonement
The Day of Atonement is full of symbolism which points to the ministry and work of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the atoning sacrifice was to provide a covering for sin, but God wanted to take their sin away. The author of Hebrews states that the laws and rituals were "a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things."
The Attributes of God
To the New Testament believer, God's final revelation of His attributes and His character is found in Jesus Christ. If we want to understand fully who God is and what He is like, then we must look to Jesus, who was God in the flesh. Colossians 2:9 (KJV) states, "For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."
The Elder Brother: Returning from Slavery to Sonship
In Christ's parable of the Prodigal Son and the Elder Brother, He held up a mirror to the Scribes and Pharisees, for they had acted in the same spirit as the Elder Brother. Today, the Elder Brother continues to stand before us as a representative of believers who continue to live as slaves to God instead of as His sons (this is actually a paper I wrote for a Bible college class on the Life of Christ).
Praise and Worship
We are to praise God for His healing provision, for His wondrous acts of deliverance, and for His providental care. For everything, whether physical, mental or spiritual, we are instructed to praise the Lord. Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord!
The Holy Spirit
Throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is revealed as a person with an distinct individuality and personality. He is a divine Person and a member of the Trinity, like the Father and Jesus Christ, and not just a mere influence or force of power.
Prayer and Fasting
The prayer life of Christ, including the results of His prayer life which were seen by all, made a tremendous impact on His disciples, so much so that after watching Him during a session of prayer, one of the disciples came to Him and asked, "Lord, teach us to pray."
The Fear of the Lord
When the Bible says that the "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (see Proverbs 1:7; Psalms 36:1-4), it means that respect and reverence for God is the foundation of our faith and morality.
Holiness and Sanctification
It is the work of sanctification which separates and distinguishes a Christian from society. The Christian's desire is to no longer to please self, but to please God.
Victory Over Sin: A Study in Romans 6
The Bible declares that sin shall not have dominion over us, nor that we should be servants of sin. So why do many Christians continue to live in bondage to sin? |
